The position will be based in Berlin at our Global Security Unit, attached to the Director of Diakonie Katastrophenhilfe and the Director of International Programs at Brot für die Welt of the Protestant Agency for Diakonie and Development (Evangelisches Werk für Diakonie und Entwicklung e.V.).

Evangelisches Werk für Diakonie und Entwicklung e.V. (EWDE), based in Berlin, brings together three brands and their respective fields of work: Diakonie Deutschland, dedicated to social welfare within Germany; Brot für die Welt, focused on international development cooperation; and Diakonie Katastrophenhilfe, which provides humanitarian assistance in crisis situations worldwide. EWDE employs approximately 850 staff members across Berlin and its international offices.

Together with a wide network of partners in Germany and around the world, EWDE is committed to addressing growing social inequality and exclusion. The three brands work in their respective field through project-based and advocacy-based approaches to protect people’s dignity, combat poverty by improving living conditions, ensure the inclusion and participation of marginalized and vulnerable communities. In addition to financial support, the agency facilitates the deployment of development workers and volunteers to partner organizations, grants scholarships, and advises partners through local consultancies. In crisis and conflict situations as well as fragile contexts, EWDE supports local partners through funding mechanisms and advocacy for humanitarian and non-violent solutions.

Grounded in Christian faith, their work is guided by recognized ethical frameworks and internationally agreed professional standards. This principled approach ensures that all activities are conducted with integrity, transparency, accountability, and deep respect for the dignity and rights of the people they serve.

Responsibilities include:

Guided by the EWDE Head of Global Security, ensure the health, safety, and security of EWDE staff working internationally by minimizing risks, in line with the organization's duty of care obligations
Identify, analyze, and manage security risks, and establish Security Risk Management (SRM) protocols and tools.
Jointly lead the Travel Risk Management (TRM) process by assessing risks, advising supervisors and travelers, implementing risk mitigation measures, and supporting travelers in emergencies.
Develop Health, Safety & Security (HSS) plans and assist overseas field offices in their implementation, providing support to employees, contractors and volunteers working abroad.
Participate actively in the organizational Incident, Emergency and Crisis Management process, oversee security equipment, and develop and maintain security documentation.
Provide guidance on Security Risk Management (SRM), Occupational Health & Safety (OHS), and conduct training sessions both domestically and internationally.
You meet the following requirements:

Bachelor's degree or equivalent in a relevant field; additional training in Labor Law, Security Risk Management, or international Occupational Health & Safety.
Substantial professional experience, preferably in Security Risk Management consultancy, with international experience, especially in crisis and conflict regions (fragile contexts).
Experience in humanitarian aid and/or development aid as well as security systems, such as Video Surveillance (CCTV) and Access Control Systems (ACS).
Proficiency in corporate Crisis Management and working in culturally diverse teams.
Knowledge and experience in project management, training, commercial/business management, and procurement.
Excellent English and French language skills, plus proficiency in German and in another relevant language like Spanish and/or Arabic.
Being available for international travel on regular basis, particularly in crisis & emergency situations
Regularly being available for 24/7 on-call stand-by for crisis and emergency support (rotation)
Being available for a Tropical Fitness Examination according to German law (G35).
