Job Description
Role Profile:
Working on 38kV up to 400kV Substations on Assets Replacement and Maintenance related works
Perform duties as instructed and issued by the PICW (Person In Charge of Work)
Key Responsibilities And Duties:
Installation of electrical infrastructure which includes, transformers, switchgear and cables
Perform routine maintenance and repair substation electrical equipment including circuit breakers, power transformers, etc.
Ensure installation works are in compliance with Standard Operating Procedures of the client
A practical approach to fault finding together with a sound understanding of preventative maintenance
Comply with all Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality requirements
Report all faults or damage, electrical or mechanical defaults to the PICW, ensuring all Switchgear and machinery is only used when it is safe to use. Record checks as and when directed
Testing for loss of voltage before starting the work
Perform replacing old and erecting new switchgear, splicing and terminating conductors and cable installation works to client specifications.
Fitting and removing local earths with the instruction given by the PICW
Repairing electrical faults on transformers, Switchgear, power cables and other elements under the direction of PICW
Perform relevant electrical tests under the supervision and instruction of PICW
Dismantling and retiring of electrical apparatus, control cables/busbar droppers under the direction of the PICW
Erecting of steel structures for switchgear as required.
Installation of IEDs, control switches and carrying out control and protection panel wirings including secondary cabling from primary apparatus to control room.
Fabrication and erection of primary cubicle/bay conductors or busbar droppers under the direction of the PICW
Quality control works areas performing routine maintenance
Skills And Experience:
Essential:
More than 2 years experienced in the power industry on HV, MV and LV live Substations
Proven experience within a similar role on major projects
Understanding about the disconnections points and substation outages
Experience in using hand tools in proper manner
Have the ability to carry out work instructions issued by the PICW
Ability to work as part of a team
Good problem solving abilities
Knowledge of hazards involved with working on and around energized electrical systems (lines and equipment/high and low voltage)
Skill in handling multiple tasks and prioritizing
Skill in performing various connections, configurations, procedures and phasing of circuits to transformers, breakers and disconnects
Ability to perform strenuous work in all types of weather conditions
Qualifications / Training:
Electrical Engineering NVQ/Diploma or time served
Current Full & Valid Irish Driving License
Sector: electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply
