JOB OVERVIEW:

Under the direct supervision of the field operations managers / park managers, the Conservation Technology Specialist will be responsible for all communication systems, networks and IT support for the two parks and head office in Juba. This role will include but is not limited to tasks such as maintaining the internet backbone system and network, VHF radio system, solar installations and IP camera systems. IT support will include maintaining and troubleshooting LAN, WiFi, printers, routers and local server infrastructure in addition to end user device support. Basic user account management and training on the technology SOP and policies for staff inductions and refresher/ awareness is also included in the portfolio. The Park Technology Officer will work closely with other colleagues that are working on technology.

MAIN ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Ensure that IT and communication equipment is fully operational all the time. This includes backbone network monitoring, Wi-Fi access points and more. Internet connection monitoring to ensure the best possible user experience where work applications are prioritized. This includes site routers, WIFI access points, and wired network points.
End user device and equipment setup, maintenance and management.
Printer, LAN, router, switch and local server troubleshooting and maintenance.
Radio network monitoring including repeaters, radio programming, and software management.
LoRa network monitoring, including gateways, connected devices, servers, and the coordination and management of tracking devices.
Maintain and monitor solar power systems.
Install, maintain and monitor security camera systems.
Manage Field GPS and Emergency satellite communication systems
Management of data collection devices (rugged phones, trackers, camera traps), etc
Earth Ranger monitoring and sensor integration.
ArcGIS management and integration (Including data collection applications such as Survey 123, and Quick capture).
Anti-virus and Windows update management
Server support and data backup assurance
General IT related tasks such as user administration, backups, etc.
Biannual audits on Laptops and Desktops
Create new AD users
Procedures, Training, and Capacity Building

Follow provided training manuals
Follow SOPs
Regular reporting of key metric
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor’s degree in computer science, GIS or Conservation, or other relevant fields
Minimum of 3 years’ experience in network troubleshooting, management and technological support to conservation.
Experience of managing networks and PTP links
Knowledge of digital radio systems (preferably Motorola)
Experience in GIS
A high level of attention to detail, structured, positive and accountable worth ethic is a must.
Fluency in English (read and written)
Good report-writing skills
Proven ability at working both individually and in a team
Willingness to live and work in a remote area with basic living conditions
Willing to travel extensively (Juba, Badingilo, Bor, Otallo/Pochalla, Pibor, Boma)
Have a hands-on problem-solving mentality
Strong personal integrity and dependability
Be someone who is physically fit. Be someone who is not afraid of heights, as the job entails someone who is capable and willing to climb radio towers to repair and replace components.
Be someone who is not afraid of wildlife and be willing to live and camp remotely in the wild with no access to running water or bathroom facilities.
