About Habibi.Works

Habibi.Works is a solidarity-based makerspace and community hub located next to the refugee camp of Katsikas in Northern Greece. It provides access to tools, knowledge, and shared spaces for people on the move, local residents, and international volunteers.

Rooted in values of solidarity, mutual respect, and justice, the project fosters community, agency, and resilience in a context shaped by European migration policies.

Role Description
The Media Lab Supervisor is responsible for managing the MediaLab so that people have the opportunity to use the workshop independently, but also to gain and enhance their skills with IT equipment, the laser cutter and 3D printer. The Media Lab is a heavily used working area in Habibi.Works with both very knowledgeable IT users, as well as people who have no experience with the IT equipment yet.

Primary responsibilities:

Make sure equipment is used correctly. If you see someone misusing it, offer guidance through education and support. Show people how to use and handle the equipment properly, then encourage them to continue using it the correctly
Support people in realizing their ideas; guide people through the design and actual making process if needed; have an open ear for people’s ideas
Offer your help and support the people using the MediaLab, including: offering guided workshops in computer literacy, Microsoft Office, and Adobe design programmes; guiding use of the lasercutter and 3D printer; facilitating access to online learning platforms
Ensure the Media Lab remains clean and tidy, engaging participants in this
Make sure the computers are not used to download or watch violent and/or pornographic content

Secondary responsibilities:

Maintain machines and equipment in the working area. Communicate with relevant team member to source new materials/make repairs
Keep an eye on material use (i.e. wood for the lasercutter, 3D printing filament)

Skills and Experience

We look for the following skills and experience when recruiting for Media Lab Supervisor:

Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Adobe Illustrator, Tinkercad, MAYA
(Desirable) Experience using a lasercutter and/or 3D printer
(Desirable) Knowledge of programming and coding

Requirements:

Commitment: minimum 6 weeks, up to 3 months
Minimum age: 22
Ability to live in the EU for duration of stay (we cannot support with visa processes)
