Lifting Hands International is looking for motivated and compassionate General Program Volunteers to join our

community center in Serres, Greece.

This is a great opportunity for someone who wants to gain experience working in a community-based NGO setting,

build meaningful connections with community members, and contribute across our core psychosocial support and

community programs.

Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis.

About Us

Lifting Hands International operates a community center in Serres, a small city about an hour from Thessaloniki in

Northern Greece. We work with a population of 1000+ refugees & asylum seekers at the local camps, providing

regular aid distributions and a range of psychosocial support programs.

Our community is made up of people from a wide range of nationalities, cultures, and backgrounds.

Our Core Programs

Volunteers can support one or more of our core programs depending on their interests, experience, and the needs

of the team:

Female Friendly Space (FFS) – A safe and welcoming space for women and girls, with activities focused

on wellbeing, connection, skills, and community.

Children Friendly Space (CFS) – A child-focused program providing play, creative activities, learning, and

opportunities for children to socialize in a safe and supportive environment.

Education Program – Supporting English and German language classes for teenagers and adults, as well

as other educational activities.

Arts & Recreation (A&R) – Supporting creative, recreational, and wellbeing activities such as yoga,

fitness, dance, music, arts, and other workshops.

Warehouse & Distributions – Supporting the preparation and distribution of essential items including dry

food, clothing, hygiene products, and other supplies.

What we’re looking for

We welcome volunteers from a variety of backgrounds and experience levels. You don't need to have previous

NGO experience — we are looking for people who are:

Motivated to work with and learn from a diverse community

Reliable, proactive, and willing to get involved

Comfortable working as part of a team

Open-minded, respectful, and adaptable

Interested in community work and psychosocial support

Willing to support across different activities and programs when needed

Experience or skills in any of the following are particularly welcome:

Working with children or young people

Working with women and girls

Teaching, particularly English or French

TEFL or other teaching experience

Arts, music, sports, fitness, or creative activities

Community work, volunteering, or humanitarian work

Strong communication and organizational skills

What you’ll gain

Minimum Commitment: 8 Weeks

Because consistency and relationship-building are important to our programs, we require visiting volunteers to
