Description

What we are looking for

Mobile Info Team is seeking an independent, dedicated, compassionate individual with strong experience in advocacy and communications, with knowledge of human rights, specifically regarding migration in Europe. The Advocacy and Communications Manager will work closely with and oversee the work of the Research Officer, as well as an assistant, altogether forming the advocacy team.

Duties and responsibilities

Advocacy and research

Lead on the development and implementation of a multi-year advocacy and research strategy and on the monitoring and evaluation of its impact, working closely together with the Research Officer;
Monitor, report and analyse relevant legislative and policy changes pertaining to migration at EU and Greek level together with the advocacy team;
Identify advocacy opportunities that align with MIT’s topics of expertise, build relationships with relevant policy makers, engage in meetings, carry out policy analyses and provide evidentiary briefings to key advocacy targets;
Oversee and support the design and implementation of research projects in collaboration with the Research Officer, including data collection, analysis and report writing;
Act as the focal point for MIT within relevant advocacy networks, including the Border Violence Monitoring Network, attending regular meetings and bringing evidence EU based advocacy, special reports, UN submissions and legal advocacy efforts.
Communications

Lead on the completion and implementation of MIT’s communications strategy together with the advocacy and research strategy, with the aim of increasing visibility and raising awareness of the situation in Greece;
Identify newsworthy media opportunities, write strong media pitches, press releases, and statements based on advocacy work which generate maximum impact;
Manage all external communication materials across social media platforms, including the development and production of regular posts, fundraising campaign materials and website updates using relevant design tools/platforms;
Act as a focal point for MIT’s engagement with external actors including journalists and civil society organisations, attending conferences and speaking in events (online and in-person) webinars.
Managerial

Delegate to and supervise the advocacy team, have regular check-ins and provide support and feedback to promote their growth and development;
Report on advocacy activities, impact and risks to MIT’s board;
Together with the Legal Project Manager and Finance and Fundraising Manager, collaborate and assist with decision-making and management of the whole organisation, in line with its best interests;
Proactively establish and manage new partnerships and opportunities for collaboration with organisations and humanitarian actors across Greece and Europe, sometimes in collaboration with the Finance and Fundraising Manager.
Profile

Minimum of 3 years’ experience in advocacy, policy analysis, or research, and communications;
Advocacy and research

Knowledge of the Common European Asylum System (additional knowledge of its implementation in Greece considered an asset);
Knowledge of migration patterns and border violence including pushbacks;
Knowledge of (participative and trauma-informed) research methods considered an asset;
Relevant academic qualification in Law, Human Rights Law, or any other relevant study is considered an asset;
Communications

Strong understanding of leveraging communications tools and implementing strategic communications to shape narratives and advance advocacy priorities;
Experience with design tools (Canva, Affinity, Above etc.) as well as digital tools (Squarespace, Mailchimp etc.) considered a strong asset;
Experience producing content for and managing social media accounts;
Experience in public speaking, writing press releases and engaging with the media and researchers;
Professional proficiency in English and excellent written and verbal communication skills (with additional competence in Greek or other languages is considered an asset).
Managerial

Strong and independent organisational, strategic planning and time management skills, ability to plan and prioritise own workload and drive completion of long-term projects;
Ability to spot opportunities for quality improvement, solve challenges and create solutions;
Comfortable with unpredictably and change, and able to work flexibly in order to remain responsive and ensure advocacy efforts are focused on impact and quality over quantity;
Strong relationship management skills and experience working collaboratively within a team and with different external stakeholders, including civil society organisations.
Experience in dealing with breaches of Code of Conduct, Safeguarding issues and/or conflict management is an asset.
