Job Profile

As Communications Officer, you will play a key role in ensuring the visibility and reputation of RI’s lifesaving work in Syria, crafting compelling stories and content that highlight the impact of our health, protection, nutrition, and WASH programming.

About the Role: You will work closely with programme teams, communities, and external stakeholders to develop high-quality content—including success stories, human-interest pieces, digital content, and media materials—that effectively convey RI’s work, aligned with organisational guidelines and donor requirements.

Autonomy and Complexity: You will coordinate closely with the country and regional communications teams to ensure consistent messaging and brand alignment while navigating complex operational and cultural sensitivities in Syria

Key Responsibilities

Accountability and Complexity

Ensure quality, timely production of communication materials that meet RI and donor visibility requirements.
Develop engaging, context-appropriate content that showcases the impact of RI’s programs across Syria.
Ensure all communications uphold RI’s ethical standards, including safeguarding of beneficiaries and data protection.
Content Development and Media

Identify, gather, and produce success stories, case studies, social media content, and human-interest pieces from the field.
Support production of photos, videos, infographics, and other visual content for online and offline platforms.
Maintain an updated library of high-quality communications materials, including testimonials, visuals, and project profiles.
Support preparation of press releases, talking points, and reactive media lines in coordination with senior staff
Visibility, Branding, and Internal Communications

Ensure consistent application of RI branding and visibility guidelines across Syria operations.
Support design and production of communications materials, including brochures, banners, reports, and presentations.
Assist in preparing internal newsletters, updates, and success stories to foster team engagement
Behavior and Conduct

Uphold the highest standards of behavior in line with RI’s Code of Conduct and Safeguarding policies.
Act as a role model for ethical behavior and respect for affected communities.
Ensure that own actions and those of partners/suppliers do not compromise the safety or dignity of RI staff or the people we serve.
Promote awareness among external stakeholders of RI’s values, Code of Conduct, and reporting mechanisms.
Report any concerns related to misconduct or safeguarding without delay
Person Specification

Skills, knowledge and expertise required for the role.

Essential criteria

University degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, or a related field.
At least 3 years of professional experience in communications, media, or humanitarian storytelling.
Demonstrated ability to write compelling content in Arabic and English for diverse audiences.
Experience producing content in challenging operational environments, preferably within Syria or similar contexts.
Familiarity with photo/video production, graphic design tools, and social media platforms.
Strong understanding of safeguarding, informed consent, and ethical storytelling.
Excelle
nt organizational skills and ability to manage multiple deadlines.
Fluency in Arabic and professional working proficiency in English.
Desirable Criteria

Experience working with international NGOs or UN agencies.
Familiarity with donor visibility requirements (e.g., ECHO, UN agencies, USAID).
Knowledge of the Syrian operational context.
Photography, videography, or graphic design skills.
Previous experience coordinating media visits or supporting advocacy campaigns
