Role Overview
Child Houses is seeking a proactive and creative Communications & Content Officer to strengthen the organization's visibility and public engagement. Based in Damascus, this role will work closely with programs teams to capture the stories, impact, and progress of Child Houses' work, transforming daily activities into compelling communications for Syrian communities, the international community, donors, and partners.
The Communications & Content Officer will lead the organization's day-to-day content creation and social media presence, ensuring communications are timely, engaging, and aligned with Child Houses' mission and strategic priorities. This role requires someone who enjoys storytelling, has strong digital communication skills, and can identify meaningful moments that showcase the impact of our work.
Key Responsibilities
Communications Planning & Strategy
Develop and implement monthly communications plans aligned with program activities, fundraising priorities, advocacy campaigns, and organizational objectives.
Work closely with program teams to identify upcoming opportunities for storytelling and visibility.
Ensure communications are proactive rather than reactive by planning content in advance.
Monitor social media performance and recommend improvements based on analytics and audience engagement.
Storytelling & Content Collection
Attend program activities, meetings, trainings, and events to document Child Houses' work.
Build strong relationships with program staff to identify stories, achievements, and moments of impact.
Conduct interviews with staff, caregivers, partners, and beneficiaries, ensuring safeguarding and consent procedures are followed.
Collect quotes, testimonials, success stories, and program updates for use across communication channels.
Coordinate with program and MEAL teams to ensure all published information is accurate and evidence based.
Maintain an organized archive of photographs, videos, stories, and communication assets.
Social Media & Digital Communications
Manage Child Houses' social media platforms, including planning, creating, publishing, and monitoring content.
Write engaging and audience-appropriate captions in both Arabic and English.
Produce consistent, high-quality content that increases visibility, engagement, and awareness.
Monitor audience engagement and respond to comments and messages where appropriate.
Stay informed about emerging digital trends and adapt content formats appropriately while maintaining Child Houses' professional identity.
Content Creation
Capture high-quality photos and videos using a mobile phone during program activities.
Produce engaging short-form videos and reels for social media.
Edit photos and videos using appropriate editing software.
Design simple graphics and visual materials using Canva or similar platforms.
Coordinate with external photographers and videographers during major events or campaigns when required.
Events & Organizational Visibility
Lead communications before, during, and after organizational events and campaigns.
Produce live social media coverage during key events.
Ensure timely publication of event highlights, stories, and media.
Identify opportunities to increase Child Houses' visibility through online engagement, partnerships, campaigns, and public events.
Coordinate communication activities with partner organizations where appropriate, including joint campaigns and cross-promotion.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in communications, Journalism, Marketing, Media, Public Relations, or a related field (or equivalent professional experience).
Minimum 3 years of experience in communications, digital media, journalism, marketing, or a similar role.
Experience in photography, videography, and creating engaging visual content.
Ability to produce compelling Human Interest Stories that highlight the organization's impact.
Understanding of donor visibility requirements and institutional branding guidelines.
Ability to cover field activities and events through professional media documentation
Skills & Experience
Excellent written and verbal communication skills in both Arabic and English.
Strong storytelling and interviewing skills.
Experience managing organizational social media accounts.
Ability to create engaging digital content for multiple audiences.
Experience producing and editing short-form video content.
Strong photography and mobile content creation skills.
Good organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with programme teams.
Understanding social media trends, audience engagement, and digital communications.
