As a Comms Intern, you will primarily support the Head of Communications in delivering the organisation’s communications objectives. In addition, you will have the opportunity to actively engage in Lighthouse Relief’s programmatic activities, aimed at improving the well-being of vulnerable populations, including refugees, asylum seekers, and marginalised groups. Your involvement will include contributing to the planning of, and participation in, project activities, external communications and awareness raising strategies, ensuring a safe and inclusive environment for all participants while prioritising their rights and well-being in all aspects of our work.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist the Head of Communications in relevant aspects of Lighthouse Relief’s communications, advocacy and fundraising activities (to include: preparing and scheduling social media posts, writing newsletters, researching and drafting materials for funding proposals, writing blog articles and drafting website content in relation to the situational context in Greece and the work of Lighthouse Relief, researching outreach, advocacy and fundraising opportunities, etc);

• Participation in sports and activity sessions for children, women and young people, promoting their physical and psychosocial development;

• Ensure that participants in activities feel comfortable, safe, and respected;

• Ensure that safeguarding standards and Child Protection policy are understood and met;

• Collaborate with the rest of the team to exchange information and ensure that LHR programmes are responding to the evolving needs of the target population;

• Maintain effective working relationships with relevant stakeholders including community groups and other implementing partners.

Reports to: Head of Communications (comms activities); Programme Coordinators (programming activities)

Requirements

● Fluency in English is essential;

● Proven ability to work in a potentially volatile environment;

● Strong communication skills;

● Experience working on social media, in advertising or business management;

● Excellent interpersonal and organisational skills;

● Valid work visa for the Schengen area;

● Willingness to work on an irregular schedule, including late into the evenings;

● Ability to work collaboratively across multiple time-zones (willingness to relocate to Greece is an asset);

● Ability to work independently;

● First aid qualification;

● Criminal Background Check;

● Previous experience working with children and/or young people is a distinct advantage;

● Previous experience playing or coaching sport or activities is considered an advantage;

● Basic knowledge of at least one of the following languages will be an advantage: Greek, Arabic, Farsi, French, Turkish;

● Experience in working with vulnerable populations is an asset.

Terms and Conditions

● Intern agreement with flexible working hours and reimbursement of transportation expenses.

● Intern should ideally be located in Greece or a nearby time-zone and should be familiar with the European, and more specifically Greek, contexts of migration.
