General Purpose of the Position

The Country Communications Officer supports the Communications and Advocacy Manager in the following fields:

Social Media Management
Collection of stories
Production of creative visibility material (photos, videos, design, art…)
Event Management
Advocacy
The position reports to the Communications and Advocacy Manager and works in collaboration with other team members.

Main Responsibilities and Tasks of the Position

Communications and Event Management

In collaboration with the Communications Manager, manages the social media pages of JRS, and supports the communications in Arabic (posting, replies to messages and comments…);
Supports the Communication Manager in planning and designing social media calendar and social media content (posts, visuals, campaigns…);
Supports the Communication Manager in creating communications products, such as: brochures, flyers, photos, design, posters, videos, artwork;
Supports the Communications Manager in collecting stories from refugees and JRS community members (interviews gathering, photos and video creation…), providing support especially in Arabic-English transcription, and translation;
Supports Communications Manager in planning and managing public events and community events that might include (but are not limited to): bazaars, photo exhibitions, conferences, focus group discussions, open days, intercultural meetings and dialogue, movie screenings, art club, presentations, awareness raising sessions, festivals, community consultations;
Helps in gathering useful information about services and opportunities for refugees, to be shared with JRS community;
Helps in identifying interesting opportunities, collaborations and innovative creative modalities for JRS Communications work;
Takes part with the Communication Manager to meetings with partners organizations, when needed and requested;
Is willing to keep in contact with the community members and build a relation of trust with students and beneficiaries, and has a clear understanding of the challenges and needs of the refugee communities (especially non-Syrians);
Helps to ensure JRS is seen as a welcoming, open place for people of all nationalities and backgrounds and that refugees feel comfortable to access our services;
Adheres to the vision and ideals JRS programs: creating opportunities of encounter, favouring peace-building processes, reducing tensions and fostering social inclusion.
Advocacy

Supports in implementing the advocacy strategy of JRS Jordan, and takes part in advocacy work where needed;
Participates in advocacy networks and meetings when requested;
Actively participates in JRS Committee (refugee representatives) work, along with Communications and Advocacy Manager;
Helps in collecting data and in the production of statements, reports, surveys.
Availability

Be available for other duties and activities as requested by the Communications and Advocacy Manager, which are within the ambit of the position.

Qualifications & Skills

Compassion and strong commitment for refugees and vulnerable people;
Educational Background in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, International Relations or related field;
At least 1-3 years of relevant working experience in the area of Communications, Multimedia or Public Relations in the humanitarian field;
Strong proficiency in both written and spoken English, and native Arabic speaker
Clear understanding of JRS values and missions, knowledge of the Jesuit organizations network, and adherence to JRS values and missions;
Strong experience in social media management and social media content production (posts, reels, campaigns...);
Strong writing skills, particularly for human stories; creative writing skills are a plus
Strong visual skills and experience in photography and video production;
Ability to use image editing software and photo management software;
Ability to record and produce videos and use video-editing software (Adobe Premiere or similar);
Ability to produce design materials with Adobe InDesign/Illustrators/Canva or similar;
Demonstrated ability in computer skills for word processing, databases, spreadsheets; and presentations (Microsoft Office applications); and ability to learn new software packages;
Experience in creation and management large scale public events; Knowledge of the local context for what concerns: service providers, professionals working in the creative field, artists, organizations working for refugees and in the humanitarian field;
Understanding of forced migration and refugee issues, particularly related to the Jordanian context;
Strong ability to work independently, organize work, meet deadlines, work under pressure;
Excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills, communication, planning and organizational skills;
Demonstrated strong analytical skills and objective judgments;
Creative, flexible and detail oriented;
Proven competence to assess priorities and manage a variety of activities in a time-sensitive environment and meet deadlines with attention to detail and quality;
Ability to work in a multi-cultural environment: demonstrated ability to interact professionally with culturally diverse staff, beneficiaries, and external partners;
Capacity to take initiatives and bring innovative ideas, related to event and communication activities;
Ability to work independently and collaboratively as an effective team member in a complex and fast-paced environment;
Ability to balance multiple responsibilities professionally, quickly, and calmly.
