JOB SUMMARY
The Auxiliary Midwife will support the provision of health services at the assigned locations. The care they give will enhance the outcomes for outpatients through education, liaison, case management, and co-coordinating the treatment.
Conduct the management of labour and delivery including monitoring contractions, fetal heart rates and other vital signs.
Help the mother with personal hygiene and recovery from delivery, including checking for signs of complications such as infection or excessive bleeding.
Monitor fetal heart rate and mother’s vital signs during labor, reporting any concerns immediately to the midwife.
Assist in setting up birthing rooms, ensuring all necessary supplies and equipment are prepared and sterile.
Assist in the care of the mother and baby after childbirth, including monitoring recovery, ensuring proper breastfeeding techniques, and providing education about newborn care.
Provide emotional support and physical comfort to mothers during labor, including massage, encouragement, and guidance on breathing techniques.
Help with the administration of medications and interventions as directed by the midwife, including intravenous fluids and injections.
Facilitate communication between the laboring mother, her family, and the midwifery team to ensure a cohesive birthing experience.
Perform postnatal checks on the mother and newborn, monitoring for any signs of complications and providing basic newborn care such as bathing and feeding assistance.
Clean and sterilize equipment after use, ensuring a safe and hygienic equipment for future births.
Work closely with other healthcare professionals (such as doctors, nurses, and midwives) to provide comprehensive care for the mother and baby.
Maintain accurate and up-to-date medical records for mothers and babies.
KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY
Strong knowledge of maternal and child health, including basic obstetric and neonatal care.
Good experience in BEMONC
Ability to provide Basic Life Support to women and newborns
Care of survivors of sexual violence

QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor degree in Nursing, Midwifery, Public Health or related field.
At least 2 years of working experience in a busy health center or hospital
Ready to work in difficult environmental conditions.
Sensitive to different cultures and has good interpersonal skills
Competent to work under stress as the situation may dictate.
EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS
Minimum 2 years of progressive professional experience in BEMONC services
Midwifery post basic training
Excellent command in Somali and English
Excellent communication, interpersonal and organizational skills
Proactive, result oriented, independent, able to identify and carry out duties with minimum supervision.
