Lifting Hands International is looking for an Education Program Manager to start in June 2025 in Greece with a minimum six-month commitment. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis.
About Us
Lifting Hands International operates a community center in Serres, a town located about an hour from Thessaloniki in Northern Greece. We work with a population of 1000+ refugees & asylum seekers from the two local camps, providing regular aid distributions and psychosocial support from a community-led approach.
Role Profile
The Education Manager is responsible for overseeing the informal education program for adults at the LHI Community Center. This role involves managing a diverse team of visiting and community volunteers, coordinating daily operations, supporting curriculum development, and ensuring the program remains responsive to the needs of the communities. The Education Manager plays a key role in fostering an inclusive, supportive, and empowering learning environment for adults, while working in close collaboration with other program leads and partner organizations.
Oversee an informal education program offering multiple levels of English and German classes for adults.
Collaborate closely with the Director of Operations and other program managers to support a diverse team of visiting and community volunteers in providing psychosocial support activities.
Conduct inductions for new teachers and provide training and ongoing support in informal education and psychosocial support (PSS) through education.
Teach language classes
Lead the design, adaptation, and continuous improvement of curricula across all class levels.
Manage registration and organize class schedules based on evolving community needs.
Collect regular feedback and conduct community needs assessments to guide program development.
Submit weekly and monthly reports outlining program activities and outcomes.
Manage the education program’s allocated budget and ensure responsible use of resources.
Oversee both physical and digital teaching materials, including the program’s library and related educational resources.
Support and mentor community volunteers in lesson planning and teaching, promoting a community-led approach to the program.
Explore and develop additional language classes (e.g., French) based on community interest and demand.
Coordinate with other NGOs and education-focused organizations across Greece to share resources, training, and best practices.
Essential Criteria
Experience in formal and/or informal education settings
Experience teaching English and/or German as a second language
Experience in curriculum design
Previous humanitarian experience working with refugees or other vulnerable populations
Understanding of psychosocial support (PSS) through education and community-led approaches
Proactive, with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively
Previous experience in leading and managing diverse teams
Ability to handle safeguarding with professionalism and care
Calm and professional demeanor, with the ability to work effectively under pressure
Strong communication skills and ability to work efficiently in a large, multicultural team
Strong problem-solving skills and adaptability in dynamic environments
Minimum commitment of six months
Fluent in English
Desirable Criteria
Knowledge of Greek / Arabic / Kurmanji / Farsi / French
International Drivers License
Potential to commit to the team for 6-12 months
