Description
Status: The applicant needs to have authorisation to work in the Abyei Administrative Area
Build and maintain a network of key contacts relevant to Concordis’ programme in the Warrap
Particularly building and expanding Concordis’ network with Nuer-speaking communities present in the area.
Contribute to building networks of key stakeholders across the country and beyond, ensuring the participation in the peace process of those who might otherwise boycott or attempt to obstruct it.
Liaise proactively with local authorities and institutions, prominent community members and other key stakeholders, keeping them informed about and engaged with the programme
Assist with the implementation of Concordis’ project activities including
Facilitation of dialogue and consultation within communities to identify significant issues, challenges and opportunities, ensuring the voices of women and youth are also heard.
Facilitation of high-level workshops with community groups in Abyei, Warrap and further afield if appropriate, aimed at identifying and addressing the root causes of conflict.
Support and facilitation in holding a series of conferences focussing on seasonal livestock movements
Monitoring of migration routes and assisting with the early identification of potential conflict or tension.
Contribute to the development of a conflict map.
Conduct consultations to collect quantitative and qualitative data on social cohesion and conflict analysis.
Contribute to the development of conflict analysis in the intervention areas.
Write activity reports and other notes on training sessions, meetings, and any other activities carried out within the program and submit them to the base manager for review.
Facilitate training on peaceful conflict resolution mechanisms.
Understand and comply with local and international security policies, guidelines, and best practices.
Report any information regarding the security context or any contextual or other event that may have an impact on Concordis International's activities and the safety of its teams to the appropriate authorities.
Translate during individual interviews, focus groups, workshops, or other activities between different local languages as appropriate.
Assist the Abyei Peacebuilding Manager with the day-to-day logistics for programme activities, including:
Sourcing venues for training and conferences;
Organising travel arrangements and accommodation for participants;
Provision of event materials, including food and refreshments
Acquiring the relevant authorisation and approval to conduct activities
Person Specification:
Essential:
At least 5 years’ experience and proven track record of promoting peaceful dialogue between herders and farmers in the border areas between Sudan and South Sudan
Strong networks amongst local communities, civil society and regional government in the Abyei Administrative Area and/or Warrap State. Proven networks among Nuer-speaking communities are preferable for this role.
Minimum three years’ professional experience working with an international development or peacebuilding organisation;
Excellent analytical, presentation, communication and reporting skills;
Fluency in English and at least one other language that is widely spoken in Abyei and/or Warrap. Strong preference for Nuer language abilities.
Must be willing to travel regularly across Abyei and/or Warrap for extended periods;
Excellent IT skills
Personal efficiency, resourcefulness, organisational ability and the ability to be flexible and maintain good humour in challenging circumstances
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Adaptability to challenging field conditions
Familiarity with conflict-sensitive approaches
Awareness of cultural diversity and political sensitivities and ability to address such issues with tact, diplomacy and sensitivity

The role is open to Sudanese or South Sudanese nationals only who must be prepared to be based in Abyei Town, Abyei Administrative Area, or remotely in Warrap State. (No relocation allowance).
Desirable:
Fluency in at least three languages spoken widely in Abyei and/or Warrap including, but not limited to English, Arabic, Nuer and Dinka
Training in dialogue facilitation, mediation, negotiation related skills
