Background

The Syria Media Literacy Lab project aims to provide participating media professionals with journalistic skills and competencies in order to lay the foundations for an overall improvement in the quality of media coverage in Syria. To this end, training courses are being implemented and a preparatory study is being conducted on the local media landscape and the circulation of disinformation in Syria, which will contribute to the achievement of the project's objectives and indicators.

2. Purpose of the position

The local trainer/mentor/editor hold workshops with content based on the curriculum Journalistic work in accordance with international journalistic standards, modern forms of publication, social media, disinformation). They also act as mentors to the project participants, providing individual support and advice during the on-site workshops within the project Syria Media Literacy Lab.

3. Responsibilities and tasks

Conducting virtual and face-to-face workshops on relevant topics in accordance with the curriculum and providing appropriate teaching materials
Advising and supporting young journalists during the workshop
Assisting and supporting the creation of journalistic contributions, conventional and social media ones, by the participants
4. Cooperation and reporting lines

The local trainer/mentor/editor reports directly to the Head of Research, the project management and the local partner organization.
5. Requirements for the local trainers/mentors/editors

University degree in journalism, media, politics or other relevant fields
Several years of practical experience in journalism (list of publications)
Teaching experience is an advantage
Experience working with digital tools and collaborative platforms
Business fluent in English and Arabic.
