The Directorate of Building and Estates in the Department of Landscaping Services have
an external position of a Machinery Operator.
INSTRUCTIONS: Applicants are required to submit, together with the CVs, a fully
completed standardized application form available from the university intranet as well as
recently certified copies of qualifications and Identity Document. Failure to comply with
this instruction will disqualify the candidate. Candidates may be subjected to appropriate
psychometric testing and other selection instruments
Key performance areas/Core functions:
To provide efficient and effective maintenance of grounds and landscaping through
operating equipment.
• Mow and trim lawn, turfs, veld grass and tree areas utilising hand-held equipment and
or tools of trade as part of maintenance and cleaning duties (e.g. lawn mower,
trimmers, leave blowers, weed eaters, saws) and ground equipment etc
• Operate lawn mowers to level the grass and fields
• Operate specialized tree cutting, felling and pruning including manual and automated
machinery
• Operate ground and turf levelling equipment manual and automatic machinery
• Operate specialized skyjack equipment according to standardized instructions
• Prepare cuts and fills and finish grading work according to standardized instructions
• Operate skid loader/ trencher for installation of irrigation lines.
• Remove weeds, undergrowth and debris from TUT grounds, landscaped and veld
areas.
• Use of various related chemicals relating to the duty e.g. Pesticides, Pool Chemicals
etc.
• Check and maintain the irrigation sprinklers and replace them when not working.
• Water by hand and/or by operating a sprinkler system

Minimum requirements:
Academic qualifications:
• NQF level 4
(NSC) National Senior Certificate or equivalent / A Relevant Certificate
Experience:
• 1 years’ relevant experience
Knowledge and Skills:
• Communication skills

• Valid driver’s license
