Description

What we are looking for

Mobile Info Team is seeking an independent, dedicated, compassionate individual with strong experience in research and with knowledge of human rights, specifically regarding issues affecting people on the move in Europe. The Research Officer will work closely with the Advocacy Officer and together form the advocacy team.

Duties and Responsibilities

Monitor and report on legislative and policy changes pertaining to asylum seekers, refugees and migrants in Greece
Monitor and report on the human rights situation in Greece, particularly regarding asylum seekers, refugees and migrants
Design, implement and update MIT’s advocacy strategy in close collaboration with the advocacy officer
Design, develop and undertake primary research and analysis of quantitative and qualitative data based on Mobile Info Team’s casework and expertise
Write professional research reports, policy papers, UN and other submissions
Write press releases and engage with media
Compile reports and give/participate in presentations
Liaise with all relevant stakeholders (internal and external) for research purposes
Collaborate in the management of social media to increase outreach and raise awareness on the situation in Greece
Collaborate with other Greece-based grassroots organisations in research projects, data collection and the collection of testimonies
Collaborate with BVMN and Border Criminologies on the Detention Landscapes project, feeding in relevant data and research from MIT
Support BVMN research and submissions where relevant
Support MIT’s organisational priorities and needs as part of the coordination team where relevant
Profile

Degree in a relevant field (international relations, law, policy, human rights, migration studies, social science etc) OR 2+ years experience in a similar role
Professional proficiency in English and excellent written and verbal communication skills Additional competence in Greek is considered an asset
Experience in research, policy analysis or advocacy
Experience carrying out testimonies and/or interviewing people in vulnerable situations
Knowledge of the Common European Asylum System and EU law regarding asylum procedures
Strong work ethic that can drive completion of long-term projects, both independently and as part of a diverse team
Knowledge of the Greek political and legal context is desirable
Knowledge of pushbacks, border violence and migration flows is desirable
Social media and communications experience is desirable
Proven experience writing long reports with a legal/policy focus is desirable
