The Youth Program Coordinator is responsible for implementing educational support services for refugee youth and their families and community partners (including New York City public school staff, universities, and local organizations) working with refugee youth. The Youth Program Coordinator has primary responsibility for school enrollment support and the School Success Program, which supports families of newly arrived children and youth to make a positive adjustment to school in NYC. They also play a leading role in the Newcomer Youth Summer Academy, which provides 6 weeks of intensive orientation and preparation for success in NYC public schools. They work closely with colleagues to ensure that the Youth Program goals and objectives are accomplished using a holistic, collaborative approach in partnership with school staff, partner organizations, parents, and newcomer youth themselves. This position reports to the Education & Learning (E&L) Manager.

Major Responsibilities:

Lead the School Success Program
Recruit, train, and manage a team of 4-5 Social Work student interns to serve as Student Support Coaches to support caseloads of up to 15 students each
Oversee school enrollment process for all newly arrived youth in coordination with IRC caseworkers, schools, and families.
Oversee School Success Program implementation, including intake, client assessment, individualized service planning, and implementation, group workshops, and monitoring
Play a lead role in pre-program planning, student recruitment, caregiver engagement, and student support services for Newcomer Youth Summer Academy (NYSA)
Oversee student recruitment and enrollment for NYSA, involving outreach & coordination with families and community partner
Supervise program staff and volunteers (operations & student support staff), as well as supporting day to day program management
Lead the NYSA student support (guidance) team, designing guidance services, overseeing their implementation, and providing counseling as needed; handle disciplinary matters
Provide technical assistance for Saturday Youth Tutoring and Leaders in Training program, workshop facilitation, & implementation
Design & implement opportunities for parent/caregiver engagement throughout the year
Support in the planning and implementation of social-emotional learning opportunities for students
Maintain program information and data collection systems in compliance with IRC standards and contractual obligations, contribute to strengthening program monitoring
Participate in Youth Program annual logical framework development and implementation, including design monitoring and evaluation activities related to School Success Program and NYSA


Masters of Social Work required


A minimum of 3-5 years’ experience working with children and youth, specifically in the context of educational and social programs
