Job Overview
We are seeking an experienced Corporate Controller to serve as a key business partner to the CFO and drive financial excellence across our international footprint. Operating out of the Greater Toronto Area, where we are headquartered, you will own consolidation and financial reporting for our Canadian parent entity and five African operating subsidiaries. This is a genuinely global role, with regular cross-time-zone collaboration — especially with our team members across Africa.
The ideal candidate brings a masterful command of IFRS, strong cross-border tax literacy, and a passion for building a highly disciplined, decision-ready financial function.
Duties and responsibilities
Financial Reporting
Own full-cycle accounting for the Canadian parent company, from general ledger management through month-end and year-end close, with the autonomy to shape how the process runs. Bring sharp analytical judgment to monthly P&L reviews across our global subsidiaries, identifying and explaining variances that inform real business decisions.
Consolidated financial reporting across the parent and five subsidiaries, including currency translation, foreign exchange adjustments, elimination entries, and preparation of the consolidated balance sheet, income statement, and cash flow statement for management review
Coordination with external tax advisors on cross-border tax matters, including withholding tax and transfer pricing considerations
Be the trusted primary contact for our group external auditors, coordinating with component auditors across our international subsidiaries to keep the annual audit consistent and on schedule
Preparation of additional working paper file support for group auditors on subsidiary engagements, ensuring component files meet group documentation standards
Oversee parent-level treasury functions, including supplier / vendor reconciliation and payment management
Support the business on ad-hoc requests and stakeholder inquiries
Financial Controls & Process Improvement
Evaluate and optimize financial systems, controls, and reporting infrastructure
Ensure compliance with regulatory, tax, and statutory reporting requirements
Oversee corporate tax filings, payroll taxes, HST/GST compliance, and other statutory obligations across jurisdictions
Monitor financial and operational risk, and recommend and implement mitigation strategies
Lead ERP optimizations and automation initiatives that eliminate manual work and build a finance infrastructure ready for our next phase of geographic expansion
Establish scalable, repeatable processes that hold up as we expand into new markets
What Success Looks Like in Your First 12 Months
Velocity & Accuracy: The global monthly close is faster, highly automated, and dependable across all entities
Scalable Infrastructure: Financial controls and processes have measurably reduced manual work to support rapid scaling
Flawless Audits: The annual global audit concludes smoothly, with strong documentation and minimal adjustments
Qualifications & Experience
Active Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) in good standing
Minimum 7 years of progressive accounting experience (required)
2-3+ years managing multi-entity, global consolidations under IFRS (strongly preferred)
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and good experience with QuickBooks
Proven track record of successfully guiding international external audits and structuring complex tax workflows
Proactive and self-sufficient: Excellent analytical, organizational and communication skills with attention to detail and data accuracy
