Description
The Education Officer is reporting to the Senior Education Officer as his/her direct line manager. The Education Officer strongly coordinates with the Education Officer.
The main responsibilities and tasks of the Education Officer are:
Programme Implementation:
Responsible for assisting in the implementation of all WH activities related to the assigned education/self-learning project(s). This includes all phases of the project cycle, from planning project activities, monitoring progress, ensuring accurate budget spending as well as timely achievement of the project’s milestones and reporting on project results.
Work closely with the Education Assistants and Education Officer in Gaziantep to ensure appropriate and strategic planning of education project activities.
Support the Senior Education Officer and the Education Officer in Gaziantep to ensure that education activities are in line with WH’s Syria Mission strategy, internal guidelines, WH’s Education Strategy as well as any donor guidelines, procedures and requirements.
Remain knowledgeable of developments in the Education sector in the field, particularly any contextual changes, assessments/report and any major or nuanced shifts within the strategies or approaches of education authorities in Syria.
Assist with the development of assessments, including the development of related tools and data analysis, related to education activities in cooperation with Senior Education Officer.
Supports timely progress as per the plans and timely reporting of outputs, challenges, liaison with local partners and communities.
Remain knowledgeable and up-to-date about specific objectives, targets, indicators and activities of the project(s) assigned to him/her.
Assist in calculating regular cash needs related to project activities
Assist with timely procurement and smooth operational support in the field through close coordination with the Logistics Department, and provision of necessary program inputs (including regular updates of the project procurement plan, technical inputs for procurement, purchase requests, etc.).
Human Resource Management:
Support the management of the Education Assistant(s) based in Syria - allocate tasks, monitor the completion, mentor and support their development (relevant skills and knowledge) as per Senior Education Officer’s request.
Support the recruitment of new education staff through contribution to testing and interviewing of candidates
Monitoring & Evaluation (M&E)
Coordinate with the M&E field teams to design and implement relevant needs assessments, baseline surveys, PDM surveys, endline surveys, and other monitoring and evaluation mechanisms to ensure M&E data that is consistent with internal and donor requirements
Other:
Other tasks assigned by the Senior Education Officer or Programme Manager, corresponding to actual needs of the mission, programs, and projects.
Substitute relevant colleagues (fully or partially) during their absence when assigned by employee’s Line Manager.
Understand and adhere to the mission’s National Staff Handbook, WH Code of Conduct, WH Key Policies and relevant guidelines.
Field Education Officer
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Education, Social Sciences, or related fields.
Training in Education in Emergencies (EiE) or similar education programs is preferred.
Experience:
2-4 years of experience in field-based education programs in humanitarian or development settings.
Hands-on experience in supporting teaching staff, implementing education projects, and conducting awareness campaigns.
Experience working with children and managing activities in school or community settings.
Skills:
Strong organizational skills for planning and coordinating education activities.
Good understanding of education in emergencies, child protection, and community engagement.
Proficiency in basic data collection tools and reporting (e.g., Kobo, Excel).
Strong interpersonal and communication skills to work with different stakeholders (teachers, parents, community leaders).
Able to handle multiple tasks and work under pressure in complex settings.
Basic knowledge of monitoring & evaluation frameworks in education programs.
Key Responsibilities:
Support the implementation of education projects in assigned areas.
Assist in training and supervising teachers and education personnel.
Monitor school attendance, performance, and feedback, and provide regular reports.
Coordinate logistics for school supplies, training sessions, and community engagement activities.
Work closely with communities and parents to encourage school enrollment and participation.
Ensure the safety and protection of children in education spaces.
