Description

The role

The Public Engagement Coordinator supports DCAF’s external engagement and public positioning by preparing high-quality messages and analysis in direct support of the Director and the Deputy Director. This includes drafting speeches and speaking points, background notes, op-eds, and contextual updates that reflect DCAF’s mandate, priorities, and positioning. The role requires close collaboration with the Director, Deputy Director, Chief of Staff, Head of Communications, Heads of Partnerships & Development and Policy Engagement Teams, as well as all of DCAF’s geographical and thematic entities.

Key areas of operation:

Strategic Drafting & Messaging

Prepare briefs, background notes, speaking points, speeches, and presentations for the Director’s / Deputy Director’s public engagements.
Draft op-eds, thought pieces, and any written communications to strengthen DCAF’s visibility and thought leadership.
Edit and adapt messaging for diverse audiences, including donors, international partners, governments, and civil society.
Political & Contextual Analysis

Produce concise political analyses on relevant developments, and political and contextual updates to inform the Director and DCAF’s leadership.
Collaborate with DCAF entities to track and analyze trends, strategic risks, and opportunities relevant to DCAF’s mission.
Coordination & Alignment

Coordinate the planning and preparation of the Director’s participation in high-level events.
Coordinate contributions from subject-matter experts to support Director’s public engagement.
Ensure institutional coherence in messaging and positioning across all DCAF entities, in particular with the communications team.
Knowledge Management & Information Flow

Develop tools and processes for timely information gathering to support the Director and the Director’s Office.
Qualifications :

Education : Advanced university degree in Political Science, Public Policy, International Relations, Communications, or a related field.

Experience:

Minimum 7 years of relevant professional experience in political analysis, policy communications, or international affairs.
Proven track record in drafting high-level speeches, op-eds, or political briefs for senior leadership.
Experience in policy and advocacy roles.
Experience working in international organizations, NGOs, think tanks, or diplomatic environments is an asset.
Skills & Competencies:

Strong analytical skills and political judgment
Ability to synthesize complex issues into concise, impactful messages.
Exceptional writing and editing skills in English and French.
Excellent coordination and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work across multiple entities and levels of seniority.
Strong organizational and project management abilities.
Proven ability to deliver under tight deadlines, perform effectively under pressure, and adapt to rapidly changing circumstances
Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion.
